I recently updated my Mat****a UJDA110 CD-R driver and in the middle of the operation it shut my system down. Upon reboot...I lost the CD-R completly...was told to update/Flash my BIOS because the CD-R was not reconized by it ( this was from a Gateway Tech)?? Long story short & two days later...I now have PhoenixNoteBIOS ver.10.12 & nothing else...it could not Auto-find the CD-r, but I manually put it in, but at my POST screen, it still is not seeing it. The hard-drive has been formatted & I can not load the recovery or backup files due to the CD-R not functioning. MSCDEX can not find the drive either...any thoughts??

Try to reflash. Try to RMA the burner (tell the manufacturer it just died)

If that dont work buy a LITE-ON burner for cheap. Its proably faster too.
