Have you run any file cleaners lately? I'd suggest, for starters, that you run a program called Temp File Cleaner. TFC. That will clear a lot of useless junk for starters. Also, you should check and update all of your drivers. How much RAM do you have in your system? If it's not the maximum RAM that your motherboard will hold, you will do yourself a big favor by maximizing your RAM. That is the cheapest and most effective method of getting the best bang for your buck out of any system short of updating your motherboard and/or processor.
Also, how many processes do you have running in the background? Go to START>RUN> and type "msconfig" and look at the START UP tab and see how many programs are starting up when you start your computer. A LOT of processes that start up when you turn on your computer are unnecessary and can be disabled for better performance of your system.
