Slows computer on network!

Now this may seem like a stupid question, why when I join my computers to the network do their overall performance decrease to about 1/3 of their overall performance?

The computer doesn't do anything more over the network except have to log in and they now have a mapped drive. So I thought there should be no problem with it except for logging in. But even opening MS word takes forever to open, but if you log out and go on the local machine it opens in no time.

Can someone explain to me why this is happening.

Thanks

hi,

as for my experment with join a domain it is always slower for it is remember everything you do on a network and plus you are join to a network which takes alot of memory to run on. That is what I get.

Their migth be a more logic to it then that but that is my best way of explaining it.
