Slowness is driving me INSANE!

Hey,
I have a problem! i don't know the cause of my problem so i couldn't really pick which area of the site to use so i hope that you can be of help!

but basically here is the scenareo:
in my pc i have:

P4 ht Processor
D865GBF Intel Board
1.73GB DDR PC2100 RAM
80gb hd

1.73gb of ram and its so slow i have recently formatted my pc and re-installed windows and anti virus software and firewalls mean it cant be a virus!!
When playing games on the internet i get jerky playback and its jus crap as for internet games like wolfenstien you end up missing the targets!

do i need a new graphic card?
any idea on how to speed up my pc!?

any suggestions are welcome

Hi,
try the 'Optimize XP' link in my sig. Go through all the steps in the artical.

Also, install Game XP, it optimizes XP for gaming. http://www.theorica.net/gamexp.htm

I guess it is on board graphics? I'm not a gamer, but from what I understand, gaming with on board graphics does not work very well. You need a card that has it's own memory so it doesn't take from the system

That is true. A dedicated graphics card makes a big difference. May be worth upgrading.
However, your system speed shouldn't be effected by this, however games will.

What PSU do you have rob?
