You're running out of RAM. 264MB simply isn't enough to cut it for XP unless you don't want any programs or antivirus running. You should get at least 512MB RAM, if not more. It's PC2100 DDR RAM.

So your saying theres nothing i can do to this puter to get it to run better except buy more Ram for it even though before the Virus it ran like a brand new Pc but now runs more like its got 64Megs of Sd RAM in it than 256 of DDR RAM

264 of DDR is what the computer came with with XP installed in it. Im just not sure im reading you right i know its running out of RAM but im just not sure why. You could almost think of this as a BareBones Pc From E Machines from the Factory but now your saying its out of RAM. Im not trying to argue I just want an explanation. If you would please at least give me that I wouldnt contest. thank you

You could try Tuneup Utilities to do some optimizations for your computer. eMachine probably tweaks XP so it uses less resources, so when you dealt with the virus, it probably undid the tweaks.

Newer versions of programs also use up more resources than their older versions. It's not that your computer is all of the sudden no good-it's just that with all of today's applications 256MB just doesn't cut it anymore.

From memory,I think with e machines there is an option in the start menu/programs to restore the operating system (not windows system restore) if so it will give a choice of a repair or a full restore that wipes out all old system back to factory settings.
Or you could try Start/Control panel/System?Advanced tab/Performance button/Advanced tab/Virtual memory/Change button/select system managed option or play around with manual allocation.

There is almost nothing you can do with that RAM.
Most people say to get atleast 512MB RAM but if you can Id say go for the 1GB RAM.

I'm surprised it's running at all. And "like new" is just a matter of opinion. With less then 512MB, XP spends a lot of time swapping data to the HDD. So more memory results in a big speed increase and much less strain on the system, particularly the HDD.

As for your current problem, most likely a new app or XP itself is using more memory and causing the problem. Stop, shutdown, or disable all non-essential applications (including your AV) and see if memory "problem" clears. You may also want to check your page file size and ensure you are letting XP manage the file size. Also ensure you have enough free HDD space.
