Just to clarify a few things:

Are one of the computers slow or both?

Use speedtest.net. What speeds down and up are you getting, and what speeds are you paying for from your ISP?

Ok. Internet connection speeds are usually listed in Bits/second, not bytes per second. If you are paying for a 256kiloBITS/second connection, then your tested speed is double what you are paying for. If you are paying for 256kiloBYTES/second, then your speed is about 1/3 what it should be.

In either case, are you using a wireless connection for the slow computers? If so, .56 Mbit/sec is right around the speed you should expect for such a connection.

Hello,

Perhaps a good solution is upgrade your bandwidth to 1mbps+ especially if you're sharing the connection with others.
can anyone tell me the problem/solution?
actual speed
0.56 Megabits DL
0.31 Megabits UL

no, only one person uses that internet it is slow so i plugin in my computer, works fine.
then they plug theirs into a super fast higher than 1 Mbps that works fine for my computer and it is still slow so upgrading the bandwidth isn't going to help

We were working on the assumption that both computers were running slow:

I asked if only one or both computers were slow and you stated:

both

In any case, now that we know that only 1 computer is slow...what are the specs for this computer in terms of RAM, processor speed, etc? Is it possible that the network is fine but the computer with slow internet is just outdated?

sorry about that, i misunderstood the question:
i upgraded the computer recently so i thought you meant before and after.

as for the computer being outdated, no it is not possible i changed all the parts recently, it's got an i7-2600 and 4GB strontium PWN Ram

Can you please post all the specs if it's a store bought PC we need the Name and model, if it's a custom we need, Mobo, RAM, Processor, Power supply, etc. Knowing this will help narrow it down. Also please specify who your ISP is a generic location (Texas, Japan, etc)

whilst i don't believe hardware is a problem as i have built the computer and transferred files over and it was still slow i will post anyway:

MB: gigabyte
RAM:2xStrontium PWN 2GB overclockers RAM 1600MHz
Processor: Intel I7 - 2600 3.4GHz
Power Supply: Thermaltake
Graphics Card: sapphire ati radeon 5450

that's all the info i can remember but i can look and give ou a more detailed version if ou like

isp is australia

however we have tried two seperat isps and both were slow on this computer.

What is the wattage of the Power supply? Have you tried setting the RAM to default settings? Overclocking could slow things down. Also I haven't seen the answer to the question if you're running it on a wireless connection. And finally, my granddaughter wants me to ask you to email her a koala. LOL. Good luck.

Post#8 - I am very confident with my reply that this is an issue. I've been reading the Posts and replies is this Thread and it's very obvious.

Please find out from your ISP regarding upgrading your bandwidth to at least 3mbps+, it will resolve your issue. BTW....I have a 20mbps subscription with my ISP and never ever had any disconnection and slowness issue.
