I want to create a simple partition on my har drive. I am using Windows XP Pro. I need to shrink my main partition so i can have some space to create my partition. I tried to use Disk Managment but it did not have a option for that. I tried using diskpart.exe but it did not work either. So i want to know if i am doing something wrong. I don't want to use a third part software unless i relly want to. Below is the code i used for the diskpart.exe:

Shrink desired=8000 minimum=4000

so if you can help me that will be great.

I don't know how to do this from within Windows, but first make ABSOLUTELY SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING! Shrinking a partition can be very dangerous. BACK UP ALL YOUR FILES BEFORE FOLLOWING ANY DIRECTIONS HERE! I can't stress this enough. I'm just posting this warning in case everyone else here forgets to somehow. You can't be too careful.

If you use any of the a fore mentioned Partition Managers, you will be able to Shrink an existing partition. And create unallocated space to create a new partition. I am most familiar with Partition Magic, Choose Resize.
