Should programs start running automatically?

I am running XP Home and have noticed that some programs on some of my drives will open up and start loading as soon as they are inserted, and others I will have to go to Add Remove Programs and maybe they will load. Is there a setting in XP or BIOS that will insure their opeining just by inserting them? If so, please let me know. Thank you.

If you mean your CD's and DVD's you can set them to autoplay by going to my computer/ then right click on the drive[D, or whatever] and click properties, then the autoplay tab and choose the relevant option for you and check the box for always etc. Do the same for other drives too.
