Shortcut arrows keep disappearing

I have a customer that keeps accidentally removing the shortcut arrows from his taskbar in Windows 7. I corrected it fairly easily last time, but forgot to document how I set it back up. He has done this again, and I am thinking it must be a hotkey he is hitting, or something along those lines. If I knew for sure, I could (a) advise him what to watch for and (b) decide if the corrective steps will be a procedure he will be comfortable with - or if he needs me to help him on-site. Is anyone familiar with this particular function? Thanks:4-dontkno

I will have to try this on his computer and see if it does the trick. All I know for certain is that there are usually double arrows in the right hand side of the taskbar - and when he clicks on these, he gets a list of shortcuts - some Internet shortcuts, some programs. He is not very comfortable on a computer, so if I can figure out what he might be doing to keep losing his arrows, I might be able to help him better. Thanks!
Hi have a look in control panel taskbar and start menu properties he may be changing the notifications ie using hide
I went on-site to check this out, and am still pretty baffled. It may have been a quick fix such as unchecking the Taskbar Autohide that I did last time - I am still kicking myself for not documenting whatever it was that I did at the time. All I know is that wasn't part of today's problem. After muddling about for awhile, I somehow added (pinned) links to the right-hand side of the taskbar - which gave me back the double arrows I was looking for. I dragged and dropped some shortcuts into it, basically building the list again from scratch. I eventually found the folder for Desktop Icons, which would have given me a pretty good list to drop into that - and may even have been what I did last time (although it didn't seem all that familiar). I am going to research the connections between the Links list on the taskbar and shortcuts - but if this rings any bells out there, I would love to know what the heck is happening here! Thanks for the input so far.
