I am having a problem with several services hanging at startup. I can get to the welcome screen and put in my user name and password, click ok.
It starts to log on but slows up and takes about 7 mins to get to my desktop.

I can bring up task manager and it shows:

svchost.exe running at 50% cpu usage.
explorer.exe is missing along with many other processes.

I know that the svchost.exe process has a lot of services running under it and after checking my event log i found these services hanging at startup:

The Application Layer Gateway Service service hung on starting.
The Task Scheduler service hung on starting.
The COM+ Event System service hung on starting.

I ran bootvis and found this information:

Boot Activity
Logon + Service (Init time: 446.01 sec)
Shell (Init time: 432.05 sec)
Process Creates
explorer.exe created at: 30.00 sec
then nothing else is created until 194.71 sec

I have run sysbot & ad-aware & hijackthis and nothing is out of the ordinary there, so i believe its not malware related.

Is there some way of reinstalling these services?
or does anyone know what could cause this problem?

Cheers in advance

Anyways windows seems to have just farted, the stink is gone and its all good again.
:4-dontkno

If anyone has any ideas what may have caused it please fill me in.

I left my pc running last night with azureus downloading. When i got back to my pc in the morning it had frozen. This is the second time this has happened in 3 days with event log not showing what caused the crash and because i wasnt at my pc at the time so i have no idea.
The first time i just rebooted and all was good, this time i reboot and well you know the story (see above). I tried disabling some services and tried booting again and again but got impatient waiting for the desktop to display.
So i left it to boot and went to work. It finally got into the desktop after about 7-8 mins according to bootvis and now its booting as normal again.
