Hi,

How do you set a partition to inactive in Windows XP? I have an empty hard disk but it is currently in 'Active' status. I do not want to it to be bootable.

Thanks in advance.

don't worry about it,it will not boot unless you install an operating system on it
i make the first partition on all my drives active just in case i wish to put a system on it

I'm got a few active partitions and none of these hard drives are for booting. Please refer to the image attached.

I'm scared that this will screw up MBR of my Windows XP (SP2) machine. Do I need to set something in the BIOS to set which drives to NOT boot from?

Cheers,

Stanley

it does not matter that the other is active your mbr always goes to the drive that contains it,for all bootable op.systems usually C
if you have half a dozen op.ssystems installed you will get a boot screen with a choice of which one you wish to boot from
in this case you would set one as the default to which it would automatically boot into unless you wanted one of the others
then you would select it on the screen when it came up
