I have bunch of services running on my desktop...which are the must haves for my PC to function well?

Hi, you will find that disabling services will make NO decernable difference to Vista's performance, best left alone. You also have processes these are Dependant on services and can be fine tuned, although Vista is so efficent in this regard you will be hard pressed to notice any difference. Clear your temp files defrag your computer and use the disk cleaner, these will provide noticeable improvements. Most important is Ram how much do you have?
