Services and Controller app has encountered a problem [Moved from HJT]

"Services and Controller app has encountered a problem and needs to close."

That is followed by a messages informing my the sytem is shutting down in 60 seconds. And then it does.

It doesnt seem triggered by any single event. I can be on the pc for 5 minutes or 50 before it happens. Thanks in advance.

It is an HP nc6400 laptop. XP Pro with SP2.
