Hi cotk69

From the looks of your error message, you were trying to install SP2 as an Active Setup from the Microsoft website. If so, try downloading the entire package to your hard drive first ( http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...BE-3B8E-4F30-8245-9E368D3CDB5A&displaylang=en ). Then boot into Safe Mode [start tapping your F8 key as the system starts, and choose "Safe Mode" from the Boot menu], and logon as Adminstrator. Don't run any other programs while performing the install, stay disconnected from networks (remove ethernet cable, disable wireless), shutdown your antivirus and firewalls, unplug scanners, cameras, flash drives, memory card readers, multifuction devices, printers, etc. Install the Service Pack. After the Service Pack has successfully installed, reboot, making sure that your firewall and antivirus are again running --- & then you can reconnect to networks. You will need to return to Windows Update yet again - there have been around 50 Critical Updates since SP2 was release well over a year or so ago.

If you continue to have trouble installing SP2:
1) For the "Access Denied" problem that you had with HKCR\vnd.ms.radio, see --- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/873148
2) Make sure all your motherboard-level components have recent drivers -- SP2 doesn't get along with older ones very well (the chipset drivers for your motherboard, and the IDE controller drivers in particular).
3) Check to make sure that the Cryptographic Service is running before installing (this service should be set to "Automatic"). To check Services - Start/Control Panel/Performance and Maintenance/Administrative Tools/Services.

See if any of that helps
. . . Gary

[P.S. ... if the system has operated for any length of time in a pre-SP2 state, I'd also strongly recommend that you do some extensive malware scanning. A pre-SP2 computer is more vulnerable to attack. Don't forget to scan for rootkits along with everything else. The MS/SysInternals tool "Rootkit Revealer" is a free tool for this - follow the instructions carefully to avoid false positives]
