I have this really strange issue... when I try to view a website, using say, firefox, I get an error like "cannot find www.google.com".. a perfectly typical error when your dns server is down, or if it wasn't configured properly.. however, when I ping www.google.com it works perfeclty! It resolves and everything.

I'm running mandrake 10... and I'm part of a college LAN. it uses dhcp and everything should be automatic.. when I check my configuration, I have an ip address.. and a dns server has been assigned to me. in fact, everything works except http.

Any ideas?

I'm so silly.

Wow it totally hadn't occurred to be to check a different browser.. it seemed too trivial.. I guess sometimes you skip the basic stuff. :p

I tried Konqueror and it works.. so I guess it's a configuration issue with firefox, and not my internet in general.

I still haven't fixed the problem but it shouldn't be too hard from here.

Thanks for the advice!! (I'll post again if I can't figure it out with firefox.)
