All of this is on my PC. My wife's laptop, on the same network (secured), is working fine so I can access these forums.

If I try to connect to security websites (this site, the links listed in steps 2/3/4, AVG, Microsoft support) or update servers for security programs (Avast, Adaware) I receive a "connection failed" message in Firefox, and a search option in IE, but other websites work just fine.

Also, google & yahoo search results redirect to any number of ads.

Avast and Ad-Aware only found some bad cookies, but I can't update the definitions on the affected PC.

Thanks in advance!

Hello and welcome to TSF

You may have to download RSIT to your wives PC and then transfer to the other pc using a removable media device, such as a pen drive/usb stick ect..

  • Download RSIT by random/random and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)
