Second HDD question

Just supposing that I want to add a second harddrive to my computer for storage. Once it's been installed ans formatted, do I need to install an OS if I'm just going to be using it for storage?

No, your OS will recognize the drive, as long as you have set the jumpers on the back of the drive correctly.
