i want to add a second hard drive to the computer i already have, i do not want an external hard drive as i need to move the computer around once in a while and also i live in a dorm and that could be too easy to steal. i have noticed the bable from the mother board only has one conector for the hard drive and the cable needed for the power will not reach (the case was not made for another hard drive but if it would work i would like to mount one one the floor of the case) also the second hard drive (set as salve) would be a lot larger (i want atleast a 250 GB) then the first (set as the master). is there any problems with any of that? I also need to know what type of hard drive to get. i will post some of the specs of my computer below from everest and tell me if there is anything else you need to know

Any drive with an IDE interface will fit .
You will need to get an 80 wire IDE cable with two connectors and an extension for your power cable

Hi,

If you have a 5¼" drive bay spare, consider fitting a removable drive bay acaddy and then keep your hard drive and any spare(s) in removable hard drive caddies.

These you can keep securly locked away when not in use. With no hard drive there is no access to any part of your computer or data or on line access.

If you have space fit two and clone one drive to the other. Keep both securely locked away when not using the computer.

You can get PCI SATA cards which have a single SATA connector on the rear of the PCI card. This can be used to connect a single SATA drive. I'd suggest using short molex power connectors to minimise wear on the actual drive and connectors. All you would connecto together would be a male power conector to another female connector.

Similarly with the STA leads use a short extension lead to avoid conecting potentially expensive drives. What you conect would be a short extension lead to another. Then think of these leads as disposable. It would be advisable to have spare leads.

SATA connectors are I've read hot swappable, but this falls into what I call the Titanc factor.

i wish i had another 5¼" drive bay but i do have one bay that would fit a floppy drive (i think 3.5") and i do not care if it is removable. i will not be taking it out ever, it is mostly for freeing up the intail hard drive i have now and to let windows run on its own hard drive.

also i have been reading reviews on hard drives and it seems like some of them are either going to be a hit or miss with how long it will last, but is there any brand or type of hard drive that is generally a good quality or is it something that can you might need luck with?

At present Western Digital seem to be the most reliable.
You should be able to fit a hardrive into the floppy bay without a drive caddy
