i am using Mandrake 9.0 but i can't seem to find a thorough search strategy. I use the find files that comes with linux but it does not find the files and i know they are there it just returns no files found. Are there any search mechanisms that allows me to search for a file by a word or phrase in file name and also searches a hierarchy of directories?

the easiest search funtion you can use is a utility called "locate" it relies on a snapshot of the file system however, so you might have to occassionally run "updatedb" in order for locate to be accurate but it does work very well.
