Just recently happened. Internal Hdd beeps one tone, almost sounds like a printer going, for about five minutes. Only screen that appears is the Pre-boot execution Environment (PXE). PXE-E61 Media test failure; and PXE-M0F Exiting PXE ROM show up with "Operating System not Found" at the end. Screan is black and does not go any further than this. The hdd is a Seagate Momentus 5400.5. Any suggestions as to whether or not this can be fixed or does it need replaced?

What is the barnd of your computer ? You can also try to disable the USB devices in BIOS and also the network device in BIOS and check. Most likely the cable is not plugged in or connected. Could be a bad cable, NIC or connection

I went to the site you mentioned and the sound resembles that of the "Seagate desktop drive with bad heads slowly clicks and beeps on spin up" only there are no clicks, just one second intervals of the beep.

The computer in question, however, is an eMachine D620 Notebook. When I remove the hdd and boot up the cpu, the beep is gone. I will try the seatools and get back to discussion. Thanks for the tip.
