Hi,
I have an external drive that I installed Ubuntu linux on. Now I want to take it off and use it as a storage device again can someone please help me?

Format the Linux partitions in Disk management.
(Right click "My computer" > choose "Manage" > Disk Management)

all it gives for an option is to delete the partition not format it. Do I just delete it?

Yes - delete - then create a new partition.
