Seagate 500gb Partitioning and Convert to NTFS

i dont have a clue how to do this. ive read some articles in the internet but im afraid i didnt absorbed them very well. so i need help.
could you provide me some assitance with this pls?
or maybe i could just use good dedicated software out there that help me get through this. any suggestions? thanks.

You can partition and format the drive with the WinXP installation disk. You can also use the Seagate DiscWizard program to partition and format the drive. There is no need to convert the drive. Just format as NTFS.

thanks for the quick reply. ive already downloaded it but im stuck. when i select the L: drive which is my external drive and click next it gives me this msg.

If this is an external drive you can simply partition and format it in Windows Disk Management.
Right click My Computer, click Manage, click Disk Management. In the right side you will see the drive. You can partition and format it there.

hmmmm try formatting the drive with disk managment make sure you choose NTFS file system not Fat32

ok im there now. what should i do? i couldnt see a partition option. theres a format option but it doenst say NTFS.

it will give you options for NTFS as soon as you click Format

im really sorry. im just not confident doing things i dont know. is this options ok? or do i need to do something else?

i guess after this the partition should show up when i right-click it.
i have to apologize for my ignorance. lol. but thanks!

after the formatting is over the drive will be ready for use!

ok now that the fomatting is finished i selected delete partition so that i can repartition it into more. now its nowhere to be found! :eek:

once you have selected how many partitions you want and format them you cant add more from within Disk management! sorry :upset:


when you deleted the partition there went the whole format process


if you want multiple partitions I suggest you look into a freeware partitioning program like ranish partition manager to partition your drive into the "chunks" you desire then you can format each partition from within windows

there is a Program called Partition Magic that also does this, but its not a free program ???????????????
