I am sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.

I got a new SD Micro Card (4 G NexxTech) but it gives error message when I insert it to the slot in my digital Fuji FinePix A820 camera. I am sure it is the correct card for this camera.

Other people have problems when they insert it in to their computers, when they want to download the images from their cameras, but I have never been able to use it thus so no pictures, it doesn't even let me to take pictures, coming up with this message, "Card Error"

It is not protected, and when I insert in my laptop it recognize it, was even able to format it. Camera works fine with other Card.

Thank you in advance.

Okay, I have no idea what is "firmware" but I went to that part of the Fuji site but have hesitated to do it because of this message:

"If firmware updating fails, the camera may no longer operate correctly in some cases."

Firmware is the software that operates the camera. While it's true that improperly installing or updating the software can cause problems, if you follow the directions it should not be an issue. The other option is to use smaller memory cards which should be supported without the need for an update.

Hi TechThick

Updating the camera's 'Firmware' (Another name for the processor-chip ) isn't as daunting as it seems, just make sure you have either:

1} - Fully recharged or brand-new batteries, or
2} - A mains power-supply for the camera

It's mostly if the batteries fade/die, partway through the upgrade, that kills the camera - It only takes a minute or 2 at most to perform the upgrade.

I must understand this clearly with this posting, have taken too much of your time already...:(

My camera has 512 MB/MO and works with it very well.
If I do the "firmwave" update Only Once then I can use the 4G SDHC as well as 512 MB/MO without any new firmware update?

Everyone who tried to help, my apologies for my slow-learning, and thank you for your participation and patient, have learned a lot...:)

No apologies needed 'cos it's what we're here for - We were all beginners, at some time or other

The camera has a special chip inside that has all the features programmed into it (the chip is called 'Flash'-Memory). As new features are added, the chip can be upgraded (reprogrammed) to incorporate the new features. Once upgraded, the chip behaves as before, holding it's programming when turned off, no batteries etc.

The only time you'll need to 'flash' (jargon for reprogramming) it again is if Fuji add yet more features, some time in the future.

Thank you JMPC, Now I am clear, I couldn't explain it better: "the firmware update adds features it doesn't remove the ability to do anything that worked previously"!

Thank you WereBo , you are such a good teacher. I did not know that 'flash' is a jargon for reprogramming, was searching anything related to the flash of the camera...

I have a UBS cord but kind of lose so ordered a new one, will wait for it and when I receive I will do this firmwave update; Of course, I will post the result here.

Okay, here is something funny: Before I came to your site I didn't know anything about Memory Cards yet I wanted to get two extra ones and went to Fuji website to search for the right one. The information there was that I could use 4G Micro Memory for my camera. Then, I wanted to buy the same brand as the one I have, NexxTech, and found it online and bought it but I couldn't get it work as you know, yet I wrote to Fuji for the reason before coming here and taking your valuable time. Yesterday, they emailed me:

"Dear Customer,

Thank you for your inquiry.

Micro SD cards are not recommended only use standard SD cards.

Thank you for choosing Fujifilm digital cameras.

Sincerely,

The difference between the standard and micro-SD cards (apart from size ) is mainly to do with the speed that the pics are written to the card, using the micro-card to SD-card adaptor adds extra time to write the data.

HCSD (or SDHC) refer to cards over 2Gb and, for cameras, you need a high a 'Class' as you can afford - The 'Class' is an indicator of how fast data can be written to the card, Class-2=2Mb/second, Class 4=4Mb/second up to Class10=10Mb/second - Obviously, the faster the card, the quicker you can then take your next photo
