At 800x600 display only fills 3/4 of the screen. There are no settings on the Dell monitor to stretch.

When I switch to 1024x768 the screen goes blank. I've tried all the other sizes and the only one to display is the 800x600 (which doesn't fit!).

Any help would be most welcome.

Ooh, hi, I'm new by the way :)

Thanks for the quick replies.

When I do that it gives me a blank screen saying "cannot display this video mode".

Then I have to lug my HUGE monitor back in and change the settings back...

Hmmm, interesting.

I've read;

"cannot display this video mode"
This means that the monitor cannot synchronize with the signal that it is receiving from the computer. Either the signal is too high or too low for the monitor to use. See Specifications for the Horizontal and Vertical frequency ranges addressable by this monitor. Recommended mode is 1024 X 768 @ 60Hz.

But I don't see any advice on how to resolve the issue?

Have you been into the Advanced Display settings?
Just right-click on the desktop, and select Settings>Properties.
Get into advanced, and select a resolution and refresh rate.
Sorry if you've already tried this.

All suggestions are most welcome.

Tried the advance settings, same thing, blank screen with the message.

Do you think there are 2 problems here? The display not fitting the screen and this error when I change the resolution, or are they the same thing?

Auto adjust is a no go - fits on the horizontal, but vertical is still 2 inches short.

Will try these drivers and let you know in 5!

Thanks for all your help mate :)

Hi funktank,
remember to uninstall your previous drivers from Control Panels Add/Remove programs.
Restart and cancel windows trying to install drivers..........run the setup for the fresh ones you've downloaded and adjust your settings in Display Settings Advanced.

You beauty.

That's perfect, I rebooted and the screen came back at full size. I went into the settings and hit 1024x768 ... I can see the screen!

Thank you very much - I can have a cup of tea and relax now!

Cheers for your help too Dai.

Wish there was a better way to say thanks though!
