Hi, new build ASRock mobo, AMD A6 5400K CPU, Corsair PSU, 8 GB memory, Samsung SyncMaster LCD display. All working fine for a week then all of a sudden today the screen keeps.going black. I Di change the CPU (fan cracked on original) but was fine after. Only changes that could have caused this are, Windows updates including 64 Bit Service Pack 1, Adobe Flash 11. And installed a couple of Steam Games, Steam was already installed. Any ideas?

Brand & Model of the Mobo-PSU-GPU-RAM?
Have you tried another monitor or tried your monitor on another PC?
If you suspect updates, go back to a time before the updates using System Restore.

Just plugged the monitor into my NAS box which is running FreeNAS and the screen stayed on? VGA to VGA.

So this is either some other hardware or hardware issue on my PC?

On the PC that it is now having trouble with details are:

Monitor: Samsung S23B550VS 23 inch Widescreen LED Monitor
Mobo: ASRock FM2A75M-DGS
CPU: AMD A6 5400K
Mem: Crucial Ballistix DDR3 1866 2 x 4GB
PSU: Corsair CX500

Are you using the Onboard Graphics or a dedicated GPU?
Ballistix RAM is no stranger to issues. Try using one stick at a time.
Your PSU is lower quality but should be good with Onboard graphics.

I am using the onboard gfx and if boot into bios the monitor stays on? So this could be a problem with the AMD Radeon 7450 HD built into the A6 CPU as I'm guessing this won't get used until Windows has booted? it? Ill spend this weekend fault finding. Googling this problem only brings back issues with monitors experiencing faulty capacitors which owing to the fact that the problem does not occur with the BIOS screen or when I plug it into my NAS box cannot be my issue. I'll try and do some roll backs although I have not set restore points hopefully there will be some auto set ones before installing windows updates. Like I said before this problem occurred around the time I tried to install Adobe Flash 11 to view videos in Steam (didnt work) I also installed some wibdows updates and service pack 1.

You can do a System Restore in the Bios.
If no joy, boot from the OS disc and try a System Repair.
If no joy, remove all RAM, boot, listen for beep codes from the Mobo speaker. No RAM and no beeps indicates a Mobo problem.

I dont have a boot problem, its the monitor or GPU/APU and I have determined that if I select any resolution above 1024x768 the monitor keeps losing the video signal and goes black for a second, this happens roughly every 5-10 seconds and gets steadily worse the higher the resolution.

If I right click on the desktop and select screen resolution the monitor is shown as a Generic PnP and is not listed as a Samsung Syncmaster, I did managed to install a Syncmaster Driver and managed to get the monitor listed in Device manager as a Syncmaster but it still showed up as Generic in screen resolution and AMD Graphics Control Engine. I have also noticed now it has reverted back to generic in Device manager. I read a post about LCD monitors losing their EIDE (Or something) which is the built in EPROM used to tell video cards what the monitor is and what resolutions are supported however, I have just plugged in an old nVidia Geforce 6600 PCIe Gfx card and have set the revolution to\1600 x 1200 and have been typing away for the last 2 minutes without so much as a flicker!!

So this is either:

1. A problem with the new AMD A6 5400K which I only RMA's because the damm fan was cracked. (Problem did not occur with the replaced one as I was playing SKYRIM on high settings without a problem.

or

2. A driver problem with Windows 7 64 Bit / AMD Radeon 7540 built into the CPU.

I am airing on the CPU myself.

That does point to a problem with the onboard graphic. I don't do any AMD so I'm not familiar with them.
