Hey guys, I just recently got rid of a bunch of pesky viruses and spyware on my computer, and now when starting the computer up when it gets to the desktop screen, after a few miniutes the screen goes black and my monitors power saving message comes up and the screen stays black. Also, for times when it stays on long enough for me to try out a game, the screen will flicker and say it can't start the direct3d enginge or something and that I need to check and see if my directX is up to date, which it is.

So far I've tried to uninstall all video drivers and all things for it and reinstalling it but that doesn't work either.

What can I do to fix these issues? Any help is greatly appreciated.

you could try a repair install with your xp cd.not a full recovery,but repair.may be needed to correct some damage done by the viruses.

Since I can't really do anything when I start it normally, would I be able to repair windows xp in safe mode?

im talking about inserting a windows xp cd,and booting from it.then run the repair options from the cd.
