I'm trying to help out a co-worker whose laptop is presenting a strange problem.

Everything works fine when his laptop is docked while at the office.

When he takes the laptop home, the screen goes blank as soon as he types in his password. It's not shutting down, just the screen goes blank.

It's only been about a week since our IT guy did a wipe/re-install of the harddrive because of a spyware/virus issue. The laptop has worked since then, and seems to have developed this problem overnight.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Additional Info

I just found out that another user had removed the laptop from the docking station without doing the proper powerdown/sleep/undock procedure. Think this could be affecting it?

Running Windows XP.

Also, has an external flat monitor attached to the docking station that is turned sideways, but the monitor settings in the control panels look correct to me.

Yes

Also check to make sure the crt/lcd settings are correct.

Many laptops have a feature of shifitn between the monitor and LCD or monitor only or lcd only.
Use the fn key and whatever key say lcd/crt
