I ran into some hard drive prob's on a relatively new Seagate 160.

Win98 mentioned an error at startup and to run scan disk.

Scan disk fails to run because it says there is not
enough memory and that just after a fresh cold start
with nothing else running.

I swapped out the drive cable because I was getting blue
screened with the error not able to access drive c:
which usually means a weak connection or an interupted
connection.

I have the Seagate utilities and I may try that soon.

Trouble is disk drive diagnosing takes a lot of time.

I've never seen an error in scan disk before.

May try to run it in safe mode.

I think the error will still be there though.

Is this a new Windows 98 installation, or an existing one? Perhaps the problem is not a hardware one, but one within Windows. I would do a system file check just to make sure your system files are not corrupt. Also, can you go to Safe Mode without incident?
