"Save As" list box

831 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  ReeKorl
A computer was donated to my family - Dell, Windows XP, Office 2002. I was able to delete the "adult" files, temp, cookies, etc. but when going to "save as" the file list that appears can't be deleted. The selected file looks like it is deleted, but it is still in the list. I don't want a child to come across some of these file names. Any way to get rid of them?

You could try with ccleaner or MoveOnBoot or even try deleting it in safe mode.
Yes try that... however if there is alot of pictures like that spyware and adware will most likely make pop ups show it to them anyhow.

This is probably stored in a registry entry called an MRU (Most Recently Used) list - download, install, update and run Adaware SE and let it scan your system. Make sure you click the setting to "Scan for negligible risk items" and when it's finished there should be a list of MRUs - get Adaware to delete all of these and your system should be clean of all of these lists in your save as, file->open, etc. Also make sure to delete anything else Adaware brings up, you never know what nasties could still be on the machine!
