Sata 2nd Drive Gone

Hey guys
I have a amd 3000 1gb ram with 2 250Gb Maxtor drives.
One drive is for OS(xp), other for games, photos and stuff.
This morning I ran disk clean up and rebooted.
After reboot my second SATA was gone.

If i click on a shortcut it says
The drive or network connection that the shortcut refers to is unavailable. Make sure that the disk is properly inserted or the network resource is available, and try again.

All my photos for the last year is on this drive and alot of stuff.

Please help

Hi,

Check the SATA cable and replace if even slightly suspect. It is always useful to have a spare SATA cable as with IDE ribbon cables.

Try a different power connection

Is the drive recognised in BIOS.

Ensure the drive is set to Auto in BIOS

Change BIOS battery if not recognised and reset BIOS to defaults. Motherboard jumper or hot key sequence.

Do you have any Sytem Restore points or backups

Hi,

I am going to move this one to hardware area since it is a hardware issue.

In the meantime, please check the Sata cables where they fasten into the drives. Both the ribbon cable and power cords in Sata drives are known not to stay on very well. There is a work-around you can buy, but I just use cable ties to fasten my Sata cables. I have dealt with this issue several times in my shop.
