Hello,

Thank you for providing this versatile tech support forum

Please assist me if possible. I am trying to recover data from a Hitachi SATA HDD that failed and... get ready... was manufactured in September 2010

This drive had the OS installed along with some documents that I would like to recover if possible. I have since replaced the internal drive and reinstalled the OS.

I am using a SATA to USB adapter to attempt this operation. When I plugged the drive in and hooked everything up, there is no recognition of the drive. To be sure the adapter was properly connected, I tried another older SATA drive I had, and sure enough it recognized that one. So apparently the problem exists with the Hitachi HDD.

When I plug it in, I can hear the drive spinning, although there is a muted click every two to three seconds. Other than that, there appears to be nothing unusual.

Please let me know if I can add any more details that may be helpful. I realize this is not an optimistic scenario, but I want to try almost anything possible.

Thank you very much for any help you can provide me.

Hi Raptor!
I have an older computer that was running XP Professional that I could directly attach it to, would that work?

I should add that my present computer (in which the drive apparently failed) did not recognize it, which was the reason it was replaced.
