SATA 3.0gb will be faster than the original spec SATA 1.5gb. The interface is the same, but in order to fully utilize a 3.0gb drive your mobo has to support it. Good news is if you mobo only supports SATA 1.5gb the newer drive will either automatically drop down to that speed or will have a jumper on the back for you to limit it as such. In the real world I doubt you'd notice a significant difference between the two unless you're into HD benchmarking or setting up a raid. Look for drives with 16mb cache's....that does make an apreciable difference. The WD and Seagate 320Gb drives are especially nice for the money and offer good performance. The fastest drives on the market right now are the Raptors
