Samsung RC730 i7

There are 4 lights at the front - the 3rd from the left light up RED when I insert the charger (the symbols are faded and I cannot read what the lights mean). I do not remember this happening before. If this is normal, then I have no further questions as the suspicion is that the charger (another) caused the problem that´s cost me already the substitution of the inside of that part of the laptop and if it is not normal I have been charged for nothing.

Thank you for your help

The Red Light pictured means there is an issue with your charging adapter What do the LEDs mean on my Samsung notebook? | Samsung Hong Kong
Make sure you are using the adapter that came with the computer. If you are using the OEM charger, and you had the charging port on the computer replaced and it is still not working, then take it back to the person that fixed it for you and demand satisfaction.

If you aren't using the correct power adapter, You can get one from Ebay

Many thanks, Spunk Funk. The link you gave me for the meaning of the lights does not mention a red light anywhere, Maybe it does not apply to this model.

However, I think I should give you some more information. In January I had a problem with the computer and took it to the shop. I can´t remember what the issue was but I ended up getting a second cha, I rger ( I have a second home where I spend a couple of weekends a month). Early in March, I was in the weekend house and plugged the new charger into the Samsung. A couple of days later in order to leave I tried ti unplug it and it would not come out. Well, it did after some strong pulling. Two weeks later, back in that house the same thing happened again, this time with greater difficulty to get the plug out. On arrival at my first home the older charge had difficulty being inserted and was not charging. I took it back to the same shop, My wife had taken the new charger to the shop and they sent me a whatsapp message showing why I could not unplug it normally. The plug had melted. I suggested that was due to a malfunction of the charger but they immediately "suggested" that it was due to peak in the electricity...

I left the computer with them and was told the next day that they needed to send for a part, which turned out to be the part that received the plug.

Now, I got the computer back and it seems to be ok, except for the red light while it is being charged. It goes out when the charge reaches 100%. However, I am sure it did not happen before and I have had this computer for quite a few years.

I doubt, if the probem now has to do with the charger as this is the one I have used for a few years and would be a coincidence if both chargers started malfunctioning at the same time. Maybe, the new charger let too much current through and it damaged the computer, The part that was substituted was only the small one that accepts the plug.

As I said, the link shows you what the lights are for. That particular light is for the Power Adapter. If the light is Red, it means the battery is in the state of recharging. When it reaches 100% of charge then the light goes out. Unless there is an issue with the power adapter or battery, then it will stay red.
It sounds like the new charger may be the incorrect one if it doesn't fit right. But after replacing the charging port, if both chargers work and the battery charges to 100 % then you are good to go.

Hi
I'm sorry to come back to this thread on a different matter. In my opinion the laptop needed repair because the charger overheated and damaged the AC power unit (in photo above). I want to press the shop that sold me the charger, the same that repaired me, to return the cost of both the charger and the repair.

Before I do that, I wonder if you can think of a situation where it was the laptop that melted the plastic of the plug of the charger (see photo, below). The first reply from the shop, over the phone, and even before they saw the laptop was that it was due to a peak in the electricity supply... and that I should contact the electricity company!!!

If you had your laptop power adapter plugged into a Surge Protector (power strip) it would have stopped any power surges.
However if the power adapter you purchased had the wrong Voltage, it would melt you charging port.

I read this:

In Europe at least, if the charger is CE marked, it must meet the requirements of the EMC directive which means it must meet standards in the EN 61000 series which include immunity to spikes and surges.

That leaves the possibility of wrong voltage or an internal fault?

I am not going to that shop again, and I want my money back... but before going to war I want to make sure that the problem was with the charger and not the laptop

Would a malfunction of the laptop generate sufficient voltage to melt the plastic of the charger's plug? ...and the only thing that was substituted was the Ac power unit because the entrance was damaged by the melting of the plug. I don't know if there was something else wrong with it
