Samsung HDD in Mesh Computer

975 Views 5 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  smilestony
HDD 120GB failed in a P3 Mesh running XPSP2. Replaced with an 80GB Samsung HDD. Recognised in BIOS with auto detect. Started to install XP. Partition made - goes through the motions of creating an NTFS format - ends but still shows partition unrecognised. Changed jumper settings - tried M,S & CS. Changed ribbon cable.
Put the HDD in a Dell (older) worked like a dream. Installed XP using the Dell. Put the drive back in the Mesh. No work. Now not getting as far as the format screen. Bootable CD loads files and then says starting windows and throws BSOD up about Page Error. HDD installed at end of cable with no other device on cable
Run out of ideas. Any help much appreciated

welcome to tsf
it could have been a bum power supply that ruined your first hard drive.
what is the ram situation? try installing with just 1 ram chip

RAM is 512Mb one stick. Swapped with another Kingston stick both appear to be working. PSU "seems" to be working - no burning smells etc and lights all lit up with optical drives working on secondary M & S

did you try both ram banks? also it sounds fluky, but remove the drive jumper all together at this point.
Tried both but neither makes a difference
