I Would Like To Make A Linux Box Into A Server(s). I Would Like To Run A HTTP server, a POP/SMTP, A FTP, And SSH. That Stated Here Are The Questions.

In Linux,
1. How Do I Start A POP/SMTP server, I Am Using Mandriva FYI?

In General,
1. How Do I get a proper Address like www.blank.com, i know i would have to check it against other DNS's, but do i have to pay for the name, or can i make my own DNS server and just have the DNS servers point to it?

Also, Should Their Be Anything else that i should be aware of in terms of law or security? My ISP does allow servers.

there is free ones, at odd names, but, if you want a simple solid name, you will need to buy a domain name.

people sell them when they get tired of them, and there is businesses that sell them, and they can be had for as little as 10$ a year from my understanding.
