Just purchased a Gigabyte GN-BC01 router. Trying to hook it up through a DSE XH1169 Modem router. When I go into the GN-BC01 it tells me that I need to setup a Static WAN address.

From there I am lost. Hvae tried all the different IPs I think it could be but still no success.

Windows XP Pro

All assistance greatly appreciated.

I'd suggest configuring the DSE XH1169 in bridge mode, connecting two routers will probably be an issue if the base addresses are the same.

Both of these units use 192.168.1.x as a base subnet, so if you don't want to bridge the modem/router, you'll need to change the base subnet of one of them to a non-conflicting subnet, say 192.168.2.1 for instance.

OK To answer first question. The DSE Stands for Dick smith electronics. And I am on ADSL.

For the second post

I'd suggest configuring the DSE XH1169 in bridge mode, connecting two routers will probably be an issue if the base addresses are the same.

I have had a look see and I presume I just go to the setting where it says Bridge and it gives me the option to enable or disable. If I enable this is that all I have to do or do I still need to change the subnet as well?

For this one I tried changing what I thought was the base subnet to 192.168.2.1 then everything stopped working. I was unable to get back into the DSE at all and had to do a hard reset. So figured I must have done something wrong.

Well, your WAN (Internet side) appears blank, so you'll never connect that way. You need the actual values for those parameters, they'd be supplied by the ISP.

As far as the changing of the base address, I suggest doing it to the secondary router. However, I like the idea of bridging the DSE XH1169 and using it as a plain modem.

A dumb question. Are you really connected with that ADSL modem/router with those WAN parameters?

My apologies I dont think I was very clear in that last post. The top half of the picture is for the Gigabyte wireless router that I am trying to hook up. That is why there is nothing in there.

The second half is the Ipconfig screen. I rang my ISP and they told me that because they haven't given a static IP there is nothing they can do to help me on this on. (really helpful bunch)

I can get the WAN address they are suppling me through a little programme I have. But this changes when I turn off the computer and reconnect.

Please let me know what informaton you need to work this out. If I start from scratch then it may come together with someone elses wisdom.

Do you mean Bridge mode as in changing the router congfiguration? If so yes I did. It still came up with the box asking for the WAN configuration.

Any idea what IPs I would put in there. Am pretty sure I have tried most of them but you never know if I have missed one somewhere. Or just putting in wrong ones altogether.

By the way, the 168.95.1.1 is put there by default for some reason and I have no idea if it should be there or changed to something else..

The information you'd provide should be available from your ISP if it's not automatically assigned. Normally, the IP address would be automatically assigned, you might need a user name/password for the account.

And therein lies the problem. I am guessing it is not picking it up automatically for some reason. The ISP wont tell me any details as they say it has nothing to do with them. I was working on the assumption it was a conflict in trying to connect to the DSE Modem/Router.

If this was just a straight connection what IP addresses should be in the picture part for the GN-BC01 router

The IP addresses in the WAN side of the router are 100% dependent on your ISP, and I have no idea what they might be. They will also likely change periodically.
