On our network we have a managed switch that is setup to just look like a regular dumb switch without any IP interfaces. Every so often though, it reverts back to its original IP address and causes problems.
This then causes some network traffic to revert straight to the 10.30.0.241 address of the switch. Why would it cause network traffic to revert towards it?
Our network is Novell bases with a border manager server as our proxy for handling traffic between the outside, inside, and private regions of our network. Everything comes to it and then goes on its way through the rest of its hops. Some traffic goes towards that switch though instead of border manager sometimes and it just loops between the switch and its last hop, so traffic just times out.
We have two other managed switches that are the exact same model and they are setup with IP's so that we can web access them if need be. All of the switches are configured the exact same way, except for the IP address of course. This is the only switch that has causing problems when it has an IP assigned to it. If we disabled the IP interface, then everything works fine.
