Hi there,

I've been noticing very recently (particularly in the last week) that during relatively mundane tasks (NotePad++ coding) as well as some demanding ones (video rendering, gaming) that on a right-click and an option being selected from the sub-menu in whatever software, from Photoshop to even just Windows Explorer I will sometimes get a "ghosting" effect from the option selected.

After a Restart/Shut Down or even just a Log Off the ghosted image will disappear until the next time I choose to right-click and select an upon, though it also can be quite random.

The ghosted option will appear underneath my cursor when moused over, but always above any windows I open/close, almost like it's trapped on a "layer" and can't be replaced by another right-click option as far as I'm aware.

Attached is a cropped screenshot to give you an idea what I'm talking about :)

Cheers,

KugarWeb

If it goes away when going to a new Window, that's normal.

Sorry I should have stated that it's also layered over any windows I have open or open up thereafter.

I'm at work right now but next time the problem occurs I'll give it a go spunk.funk :).

Any particular reason why it's doing it in the first place? Computer under load? Doesn't seem to be doing anything out of the ordinary which I've been doing for months with this build :S

Does the "message" change or is always what your thumbnail shows?

Nope, it can be anything and happen any time in any program or out of a program (e.g. Photoshop, Windows Explorer) :S

EDIT: Just happened again when creating a new folder on the Desktop. I've tried the Refresh on the right-click menu but the option is still ghosted on top. I have a feeling it's something which Windows is loading in while the right-click menu is loading as it seems to take quite a while thinking about what to display.

This is the very first time I've used the right-click menu today too and it's now fine (i.e. doesn't create anymore "ghost options" or replace the existing one).

I have this exact problem. I found, with other research, that going to the task manager and killing dwm.exe will make it go away, but the very next context menu I use will get stuck. I updated my video card drivers to the latest and it still persists.

I have windows 7 ultimate 64-bit
16gb ddr3 ram
2x geforce 550 ti
i7 sandy bridge running at 4.4ghz

I was gone from my house for over a month and this never happened before I left. I get back and these weird things started happening.

Windows is 100% patched. I use microsoft security essentials and I am a computer expert. I have never been a victim of a computer virus or malware. I don't think this is the result of either, but I am lost as to how to fix it.

I did skim through it before I posted my reply. It was dated 2008 and I didn't see that the solutions were relevant anymore. It was on XP, so I didn't think a fix would have worked for 7.

I was already playing with the visual effect settings before i found this forum and it didn't seem to work. I re-read the other post and only disabled the one it mentions and it seems to have fixed it so far.

I was just about to reply, actually this exact information. Before when i killed dwm.exe it made the ghosting go away and the very next menu i used it would ghost, it hasn't recurred yet so it might be fixed =)

Thank you

Hi there,

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I'm still having this issue. I've tried killing the dwm.exe but now it seems to have slowed the reaction time of the menu appearing?! However, the issue of the "ghosting" doesn't seem to be apparent anymore...any further thoughts?

I've upgraded my drivers to the latest version and there is no updates for Windows pending.

EDIT: Okay, after trying a few more context windows the ghosting seems to have appeared again! When I adjust my resolution or use any full-screen applications it seems to "clear" the screen and it's back to normal until I use another context menu :banghead:

Cheers,
