I have 2 Seagate Baracuda HDs hooked up to my ASUS P5B-E Motherboard. Problem is I disconnect mobo from power and took out back-up battery to try and solve another issue I was having. When I turn computer on I lost all my BIOS settings and now it won't recognize I have an OS on there.

At first I forgot to tell the BIOS the drives were in RAID configuration and it said something like "No Operating System". Then when I went in and changed the IDE setting to RAID (that's all I did I didn't change anything but the one setting from whatever it was to RAID) and changed the boot priority to only having "Hard Drive" on it (so obviously it is primary boot). Now I get a new error, "Reboot and select proper boot device. Insert bootable media and press any key to continue".

So obviously my mobo isn't seeing the drives as it used to. Any suggestions on how to get my mobo to see the RAID0 set-up as it was originally created, it should be simple seeing as it is the same RAID controller and everything?

Sorry, if you have already seen this in the Mobo section, I first posted in motherboards accidentally then realized it belongs here

The information on the drives that belonged to the raid were probably saved in the bios, along with the strip size and order of the drives. you will probably have to recreate that in the raid setup.

Sorry, pretty much all I know about setting up a raid array is when building a new computer to go in and set the HD setting to raid. So you will have to bear with me here.

How exactly do I recreate that. I assume all the values were set to default also if that helps. As far as the drive order there are only two so I assume I can try process of elimination to figure out the correct order. The only thing about raid setup I know is the one little section in the BIOS menu and I dont recall seeing anything there about strip size or drive order.

The other thing I was thinking about after reading through some posts is maybe to insert a VISTA recovery CD and see if it can fix the array and make some sense of things enough to realize theres already an OS on there, but I am a little weary of doing anything new to the drives that might forever kill or overwrite the old settings, so I was holding off on that. What do you think?

Thank you so much in advance for your help, after running through many posts I have seen you often help people solve their issues so I am glad you decided to hlep me as well :)

Until you get the array recognized, the Vista install won't see the volume. The controller probably doesn't have configurable stripe sizes, but not sure how the arry info is stored. There should be someplace tho to configure the raid as to how many drives are included in the array etc. Might not be in BIOS, might be an option screen - diable the quick post option, and if there is an option for verbose post or something along that line that shows all the post messages rather than a splash screen you might see it there...

YAY! I SOLVED IT.

Ok so heres what I did to fix it. Under the BIOS IDE Configuration there is an option called Onboard Serial ATA Bootrom. I had that option disabled. I went back and enabled it and voilla, boots up like a charm. So apparently the raid array information was stored on the drives themselves.

Im just soo glad thats over with =)

Thanks again for your help!
