Dell has sent me a warranty replacement for my desktop. I have some files I need to retrieve off of the hard drive. I installed it in the new desktop as a slave drive and can see the contents of the drive. I can't find the files I need. They were in my documents folder on my desktop. The folder I find on the old hard drive that seems logical to contain the files says I don't have permission to access. The old hard drive was Windows Vista and the computer is running Windows 7. Any suggestions on how I can get my documents and pictures off the old hard drive?

Add "TakeOwn" to your context menu. Download the .reg file and permit registry merge to occur -

RIGHT-click on the folder in question, select "Take Ownership"
