Perhaps some more detail would help...

Why do you think you need to do a restore?

What media do you have to do a restore? (Windows CD, OEM CD, no CD)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
If your current windows can boot to safe mode (F8 key when starting) then you can fix corrupted files by selecting: Start > Run > type CMD and press Enter, then type: CHKDSK /F (and press Enter)
If you get a message that the computer needs to reboot then do so.

Next, (repeat steps given above if necessary to get to command box) type: SFC /SCANNOW (and press Enter, note the double N's is correct)
If you get a message that the computer needs to reboot then do so.
You need the CD to perform this part if corrupt files need to be replaced.
