restart randomly

Ok, i am trying to fix my uncles computer but whenever i try to do anything, it restarts randomly and gives me all these application errors that say "So and So has encountered a problem".

I have tried doing a defrag and since i got a error for LSA shell i did a ms blaster wrom scan...but i can't really do anything because it randomly restarts but...when i let it sit its fine, but the second i start a scan it will restart...

Have you tried running an AV in safe mode?

If you go START>RUN and type msconfig you can put windows in diagnostic start-up mode, which might keep things running while you work on finding the problem.

You can also initiate a system restore from the same panel.
