using win xp home, my sata drive, that has the operating system on it and works fine, shows up as a removable drive. Does anyone know how to correct this? As i said, the system works awesome , gigabyte sli mb, fx-55 cpu, 1 gig kingston ram, 2- bfg 6600 gtoc's. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance !!
yes, the mb does support hot swapping, but you would think that the drive that has the mbr on it wouldn't show up as removable. by the way, it won't let you remove it !! I've looked in every forum i could find and have been unable to find anything. Could there be a way to tell windows that that drive is not hot swapable or to do it in the mb bios? thanks for the reply, i sure appreciate it
SATA is a hot-swappable technology, which is why it's rather popular in the server arena. I've so far been unable to find a way to turn off that feature so I'm guessing it's impossible. It won't affect your performance so I'd just let it go. If the icon is a nuisance just double click it and there is a checkbox to prevent it from showing.
As mentioned, SATA is hot-swappable (add/remove while system running) so your IDE controller driver is showing it as a removable drive, (typical of a nVidia chipset).
This doesn't hinder system operation in any way, so it's not a problem, but if it's annoying and you're not using IDE drives then you can uninstall the IDE driver.
Thank you all for the help, it definitly does not hamper the performance of this machine at all, it's by far the fastest machine i've built. thanks again for the help
