I am trying to create a shortcut to open the run dialog in windows xp. reason being is I am removing the start bar on my machine and replacing it with a mac-style dock.

The run dialog is called from the shell32.dll, but I am not sure how to call it in the form of a shortcut (or the syntax for that matter). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi enoctis...

You could just click Start then click and drag the Run box to your desktop as that will create a desktop shortcut for you.

doesn't drag

i have "drag & drop" enabled in my startbar settings, but i can't drag the "run..." item to the desktop. any other suggestions?

edit:

I went into my start menu settings and changed the style from "classic start menu" to "start menu" (xp style) which enabled me to drag it from the start menu. apparently, the classic start menu style doesn't allow dragging & dropping of default items...

thanks a lot for your help!
