If you are using a dial-up connection you can. You can use CallWave which will tell you when someone is calling your home phone. Other than that you can't tell who is calling you cause your not using your phone line.

I have never heard of anyone using a software program to allow them to see who is calling their phoneline when they were using broadband connection.
Yes there is software out there to use with dial-up connections.

As GeekGirl stated earlier, cable and voice are two separate lines (in this instance anyway). He could use Callwave with Cable and DSL also, but I don't see how it would be possible (to do what he is asking) in his current situation, unless he was using VoIP.

Yes, you can do caller id

There's no need for internet service, (it has nothing to do with the internet).

You will need a phone modem though, some software, and the phone company's Caller ID service (might cost extra depending on your phone service package).

Matter of fact you can have quite the setup if you have a voice/fax modem

CallCenter is a FREE 32-bit, integrated fax, voicemail and data communications application

If you want something simpler, check these...http://www.snapfiles.com/freeware/comm/fwphonetools.html
