dvd drive showing code 41 PLEASE help :[

dvd drive is not working and has an exclamation mark over it in device manager, it is telling me it is diabled code41? Is this a hardware issue in, shall I call out the computor doctor or is it fixable (tried disabling and rebooting to no effect.

The code41 means it has the driver loaded for the device but can't find the device. check the connections to it. Is it inside you PC??

yes the drivers are in the computor and I am a techno phobe!

You either have a loose connection inside the PC to the drive or the drive maybe faulty. How old is it??

just seen that it is showing i am on 200 pro, that is sons comp, the problem now is with xp
I put some heavy books on the tower the other day, is that what has done it?

This is what it says to do from Microsoft


install the device, and then click Scan for hardware changes to reinstall the driver. If the hardware was not removed, obtain a new or updated driver for the device.

you could try going to device manager and right click on the device with problem and click scan for changes see what it says

well its fixed.
It was the wonderful norton systemworks that had locked it down :deveous:
we are now running AVG, drive is back, all is tickety boo!!
