If you're trying to format it FAT32, 2K/XP will only do 32gigs. However, other utilities, like Partition Magic, will format it any size you like FAT32. Of course, you can also just use an MS-DOS boot floppy to format it full sized in FAT32.

Theres a very handy little program for situations like these, basically it controls your entire Hard Drive, allowing you format partitions, resize partitions, split up partitions etc.

It's called Boot It and is available Here

Although i should warn you, TAMPERING WITH YOUR HARD DRIVE CAN DAMAGE YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM AND DATA. USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

I have used this before to tamper with large parts of my hard drive and it HAS rendered my operating system unusable, resulting in me having to partition.

Like i said, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Welcome to TSF:

What method did you use to make the partition you have / Win 98SE bootdisk I will guess ?????

If thats so / then you can does as John Will has suggested / go bootdisk.com and download the Win ME bootdisk ~~ it supports drives larger (fdisk) than 32gig ~~ win 98 bootdisk is capped at 32gigs

As Daniel Grant has stated / Boot IT NG is a very powerful tool / I have used it to recover corrupt partion tables / its deep water though !! I have also irrecoverably boogered up a couple of Windows XP enviro's while learning !! But thanks to my back-ups (xxclone) I didnt care !!

Why fool around with Boot-It if it scrambles your drive? If I'm going to buy a utility to manipulate partitions, I'll take a working one, thanks.

John Will:

What partition moving, resizing program desont have any chance of boogering your OS / certainly not partition magic LOL I have crashed with that one !!

playing with partitions is risky business until you get good at understanding what the progrma is doing.

my impression anyway ??? whats yours

Well, I normally don't badmouth a utility, then go on in the same message to recommend it! I've actually had excellent luck with Partition Magic, the only failures that weren't explained by corrupted partitions (not PM's fault) were doing merge operations. I specifically recommend against using that feature, but other than that, I use PM a lot and don't have any issues with it. I'm sure this is the last release I'll be able to say that about, because everything else that Symantec has bought has been screwed up by a couple of releases under their "leadership".

Yeah that pretty much sums up my experience with all partition manipultaing software. I dont think any of them are bad, I personally feel its best to learn how to use them when you have a good back-up ready / other than that they are a real time saver and a great tool. As for Symantec buying it and the results therafter / your evaluation needs no further explaination; prefectly accurate as usual.

cheers

Thank you guys for putting in your help. I appreciate it. I found it out that my mobo doesn't support no more than 30GB HD. So I upgraded/flased the bios mobo and all is fine now. Thread is now resolved and closed.
