I flashed the bios over a month ago prior to installing xp home everything worked fine till a few days ago when my laptop froze and it wouldnt boot back up. Since I have had the hard drive tested it was fine I then added more memory still nothing the dvd drive wont read anything but it has been a problem since day one. Someone another threadsuggested I reset my bios to the defaults well now I cant even get into the bios screen just a dell screen appears it tries to go into the setup mode then freezes.

I wonder if your CPU fan has died and your CPU is instantly overheating which would cause the quick and sudden freeze. Can you hear any fans ruinning at bootup? There may be a few fans other than the cpu fan.
