General Router Reset for Linksys, Netgear, D-Link and Belkin Routers:
There are a variety of reasons why a Router needs to be reset to the factory default setting. Forgotten or lost router password. Complicated Issues with wireless/wired network. Often, these issues can be resolved by a router reset to the factory default setting.
Note: Before resetting the router, please make a note of the previous settings such as IP addresses, security keys, opened ports and services. You will need to reapply the same settings. It’s also advisable not to Restore the previous settings, best to start fresh.
How to Reset the Linksys Router to factory default.
1. Locate the small button that reads Reset from the back of Linksys Router. Press/Hold down the Reset button with a Paper Clip for 30 seconds.
2. The lights need to start blinking, and then unplug the power cable. Wait for five seconds and hold the reset button with the power turned off. Plug in the power cable and hold the reset button held for five seconds.
3. Expect the lights to flash again on the router. Settings on the router are now wiped out.
4. Click here http://192.168.1.1 to access router’s configuration page. You may be prompted for an administrator login. The older Linksys routers default username is ‘blank’ and the default password is "admin". On newer Linksys routers, both the default username and the default password are set to "admin".
How to Reset the Netgear Router to factory default.
1. Locate the reset button on the rear panel then press the reset button on the back until the test light blinks for about 10 seconds.
2. Release the button. Wait for the router to reboot.
3. Access the router’s page, or try this one first http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.0.5 or http://10.1.10.1 and press the enter key. This will bring up the login prompt for most Netgear. The default username is admin and the password is either password or 1234
If the router configuration was not cleared or reset, try these additional steps after the router has finished rebooting.
1. Unplug the router's power.
2. Press and hold the reset button. While the button is held down, reconnect router's power.
3. Continue to hold the reset button for 20 seconds after reconnecting the power.
4. Wait for the router to reboot.
5. Access the router’s page, or try this one first http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.0.5 or http://10.1.10.1 and press the enter key. This will bring up the login prompt for most Netgear. The default username is admin and the password is either password or 1234
How to Reset the D-Link Router to factory default?
1. While the D-Link router is powered on, locate the Reset button on the back of the router.
2. Use a paper clip or a pen to push the Reset button.
3. Hold it for about 10 seconds and then release or when you see a few lights flashing on and off from M1, M2, M3 etc. and wait until all the lights stabilize.
4. After you have completed the steps from 1 to 3, the router will be reset to the factory default settings.
5. Click here http://192.168.0.1 to access router’s configuration page. You may be prompted for an administrator login. Use "admin" as the username and leave the password blank when the login screen appears.
How to Reset the Belkin Router to factory default?
1. While the router is powered on, use a paperclip to press the reset button for seven seconds or so. The router lights will flash and this will restore the router to factory default.
2. Connect your computer to one of the routers lan or ethernet ports with a straight/patch network cable.
3. Open up a browser or just click here http://192.168.2.1 to access router’s configuration page. You may be prompted for an administrator login. There is no password when the login screen appears.
