Replacing Motherboard OS Re-installation?

830 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Tyree
My motherboard may be toast and I have looked around for the exact model. If I simply swap them like for like, what can I expect to have to do? Will I need to re-install the OS? Will I need to flash the BIOS, if so how? Will I need any special goo for the CPU and heatsink? Thanks in advance for all your help!

If the Mobo is identical to the old one you probably won't need to do anything. If it differs then you can usually get away with a Repair Install.
Personally, I prefer to save any data I want off the Hdd onto a flash drive or CD then Zero the drive and do a fresh install.
You will need some thermal paste and that can be obtained at any PC shop.
